Jennie Chancey at Sense and Sensibility now has e-patterns!  When you find a pattern you like, you can download it immediately.   The wonderful thing about this (Jennie says on her web page), is you can alter the size of the print out.  If you’re really creative and you want to make a doll dress to match your daughters dress, just print out the pattern at a reduced scale.  How great is that!

Check out her website for ALL of the details!

                                                                Come on in!

I have participated in the “Making Your Home a Haven Monday” from Crystal’s Blog several times now, but during these times, I’ve only posted what I do, not why I do what I do.  I thought today might be a good day to do this since I’ve not posted in a while.  I am very grateful to be a stay-at-home mom.  I have a wonderful husband who provides for our family outside the home, and I feel it is not only my duty to provide him with a “haven” to come home to, but it is a blessing to do so.   Scripture tells me that my job is to “to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed.”   What do you think God means when he says “homemakers”?  (KJV  uses the phrase “keepers at home.”)  It is my opinion that it means to keep your home in a way that your husband is comfortable.  Your home should be a place of rest, of learning, and of love, not a place of strife, of agitation, and of constant tension.  Each family is different and I will not judge how your house is kept.  For my family, I must keep my house picked up and organized.  Whenever we’ve had an especially trying week, and the housework has suffered, I can tell by the reaction of my husband and my children.  Everyone seems to be on edge, a little more critical of others, quicker to blame someone else, and just in an all around foul mood.  My goalis to be able to have company with no more than a 30 minute notice.  This means I would only have time to do a quick vacuum and dust before I begin preparing food.  Now do I always accomplish this goal?  NO, but that is why it is a goal and not the norm.

Now having said this, here is my list of things to do today. . . .

  1. Morning Routine (click here to see it)
  2. Laundry (isn’t this always #2 on everyone’s list?)
  3. General pick up (Sundays seem to destroy our house!)
  4. Vacuum and pick up Living Room
  5. Dust Living Room
  6. Prepare Dinner (Today’s menu, meatloaf, mashed potatoes, rolls, green beans YUM!)

I’m Finished!

dsc00618.jpgdsc00617.jpgI am finally finished with the cross-stitching for our church quilt!  (Excuse the creases where the quilt blocks were folded for shipping.  If you iron them before they are laundered, the pattern may be permanently visible.)  Anyway, I can begin on my reading now!  (That is after I finish wrapping presents and preparing for Christmas!)  I’ll try to post updates and reviews on the books from my “Bookaholic” page!

Today has not started like it should have, I guess I need to start with last night.  I couldn’t get to sleep.  I think I looked at the clock for the last time at 2:15, just as my husband’s alarm was going off.  This morning, I awoke to my dog having labored breathing and other issues.  I ended up having to rush our beloved dog to the vet as soon as it opened, so my morning routine was interrupted.  I will, however, try and catchup later on today!

For a little inspiration, after a rough morning, I turned to the Creator of all and looked to this verse. . . .Isaiah 40:28-31 Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the LORD, The Creator of the ends of the earth, Neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength. Even the youths shall fain and be weary, And the young men shall utterly fall, But those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.

I may feel the effects of the lack of sleep and the anxiety of a sick pet (more like part of the family than a dog), but I know I can rest in the promises of Isaiah 40:28-31.  Our Sovereign God will equip me for the full day of studies, home making, and the birthday celebration we are to attend tonight.

My “to do” list for today. . . .

  1. Studies with my blessings!
  2. Project of the day (see below)
  3. Lunch with my family
  4. Grocery shopping
  5. Haircuts for the boys
  6. Some Christmas shopping
  7. Violin lessons
  8. Birthday celebration (which includes dinner)
  9. Last minute cleaning for company coming tomorrow

Today’s project. . . bedrooms!  YEAH, this couldn’t have come on a better day!  My energy level isn’t that high, but thankfully I learned a long time ago to keep this room special.  Someone told me that a husband and wife’s bedroom needs to be keep clean and inviting.  This is our sanctuary when we need to escape any stresses.  I’ll dust, vacuum, and put away a few things on my dresser and I’ll be done.  ;o)  As for the rest of the bedrooms, my blessings are old enough to manage their rooms on their own.  Look for before and after pictures here!

Can you believe we are already on Day 7?  Wow!  OK, Crystal’s challenge is fairly easy today.  First of all, you need to begin with your morning routine.  Then move on to your to do list.  Next, begin making dinner by noon (This one is going to be a little late for me, I have to go grocery shopping today before my dinner can be prepared!).  Finally, here is today’s challenge and it’s in two parts . . . .

1) Clean out, declutter, and organize a drawer, shelf, or closet.

2) Tackle a project you’ve been procrastinating on for too long.

Or, you can do both!

OK, here is my to do list:

  1. Put away all folded laundry (Hey, I’m caught up until everyone gets out of bed that is!)
  2. Vacuum upstairs
  3. Sweep upstairs
  4. Clean bathrooms
  5. Tackle guest room closet

Today’s Challenge:

1) Refresh Your Spirit
Today a portion of my reading was in Psalm 139:17-24 17 How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God!  How great is the sum of them!  18 If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand; When I awake, I am still with You.  19 Oh, that You would slay the wicked, O God!  Depart from me, therefore, you bloodthirsty men.  20 For they speak against You wickedly; Your enemies take Your name in vain.  21 Do I not hate them, O Lord, who hate You?  And do I not loathe those who rise up against You?  22 I hate them with perfect hatred; I count them my enemies.  23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; 24 And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting.    David is speaking about thinking of God’s thoughts, and how they are not like man’s thoughts.  He is being chased by Saul again, and he is wishing his enemies would be gone, but on the other hand, David will not lay a hand on God’s anointed.  How often do we try to take God’s job into our hands?  Should we not meditate on God’s thoughts all day also?  David also goes on to ask God to search his heart.  Some days it is a lot easier to say that than other days, isn’t it?  But God already knows our heart.  I think the difference in this portion of scripture is David is wanting God to relay the findings of his heart to him so that he can release that to God also.

2) Do Your Morning Routine

You can locate mine here.

3) Take Time to Plan

  1. Studies with my blessings.

  2. Finish laundry which has collected over the weekend.

  3. Finish straiting up the guest room.

  4. Vacuum the downstairs.

  5. Whatever else I see that needs completed.

4) What’s on the Menu for Dinner?

Tonight we will be having French Dip sandwiches for dinner!

5) Project of the Day

Today we’re starting at the front door and moving on to the kitchen.  This is perfect for me as my kitchen is in eye-shot of the front door.  The kitchen in our house is a very busy place, so this will be a wonderful challenge!  Pictures to come!
