Rainy days are wonderful, don’t you think. It has rained almost continually for the past 10 hours. Some of it has been violent with lightening and thunder (which sent my dog tunneling under the covers at 5:30 this morning), but for the most part it has been a nice steady rainfall. This type of weather makes my back deck wonderful. It is covered and sheltered on two sides, so we can swing on the porch and just enjoy the nourishment that the Creator is giving to his creation. In Job 38 verses 25 – 30 it tells us :
“Who has divided a channel for the overflowing water, Or a path for the thunderbolt, 26To cause it to rain on a land where there is no one, A wilderness in which there is no man; 27To satisfy the desolate waste, And cause to spring forth the growth of tender grass? 28Has the rain a father? Or who has begotten the drops of dew? 29From whose womb comes the ice? And the frost of heaven, who gives it birth? 30The waters harden like stone, And the surface of the deep is frozen.
This verse also reminds us of the winter weather to come. Those of us in Southwest Missouri remember very well the ice storm we endured just this last January. These verses in Job reminds us that the ice is also in the Lord’s hands and we should take comfort in that no matter what.
